Drafting Technology is a specialized field that focuses on creating and interpreting technical drawings and plans used in engineering, architecture, construction, and various industrial sectors. The NVQ Level 5 National Diploma in Drafting Technology, as defined by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka, is designed to produce competent Drafting Technologists who can function effectively in both public and private sectors. Drafting Technologists are advanced-level professionals who go beyond basic drafting. They are involved in designing, detailing, and managing drawing-related tasks in areas such as buildings, highways, bridges, irrigation, electrical systems, mechanical systems, landscaping, and more. Their expertise includes manual and computer-aided drafting (CAD), project documentation, drawing office management, and coordination with engineers and architects. The qualification includes various specialized training packages, covering Building Construction, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), Architectural, Structural, and other drafting domains. It emphasizes practical skills, software proficiency (like AutoCAD), workplace communication, and safety practices.
