A Building Services Technician is a skilled professional responsible for ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and telecommunications systems in a building operate efficiently and effectively. These systems transform a basic building structure into a safe, comfortable, and functional environment for occupants. Their work includes installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing building systems such as HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), elevators, fire alarms, lighting, water supply, and energy systems. They are also expected to assist other professionals like electricians, plumbers, and engineers in maintaining system performance according to health, safety, and environmental standards. To become a certified Building Services Technician in Sri Lanka, one can follow the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) pathway at Level 3 and Level 4, which includes training in preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, minor repairs, and teamwork. This qualification is recognized nationally and internationally, ensuring a wide range of career opportunities in the construction and facilities management sectors.
